Michelangelo : How did you know Angelo Branduardi
?
Padre Enzo : Branduardi,
we knew him at the "starting" of
the project on the theme of Holy Francis (the cd Infinamente
piccolo), in front of the Basilica of Holy Francis in Assise.
M : Angelo repeat often to have
been called by the
Franciscan fathers to make this disk on Holy Francis, are
you one of the brothers having contacted him?
P.E. : No, no, we implied ourselves after and this is how
is born a beautiful friendship in relation with the Franciscan
message and his revelation, it is true that we also solicited
him on the occasion of the 750 years of the Basilica.
M : Indeed, I was present to this concert, it was fantastic
!
P.E. : Then, we also called Angelo for a spectacle devoted
to a big message of peace that took place in one the oldest
regions of the Amalfitan coast.
M : I was also there because I live in the peninsula of
Sorrente and I had been hit by the fact that Angelo, the
previous day sang in Lombardy and the day after had to return
again in Lombardy for a spectacle, it had made all this roads
for only one day of work to Scala, a place that is not absolutely
easy to reach.
P.E. : I am from Scala !
M : Really ? I am from the peninsula
of Sorrente, I live between Meta and Sorrente, it’s
not very far ! Did you assist to a Lauda ?
P.E. : Yes, yes, it is a very beautiful spectacle.
M : Did you already think about a representation of the
Lauda in Assise ?
P.E. : We will see, this summer, it could be nice !
M : To your opinion, why so many
laic people saw this Lauda that becomed a big success ?
P.E. : Because
each human being has in the heart, I believe, a big need
of peace, of interior peace, peace with the others, social
peace and in that way, the lauda answers all this fundamental
need of the man because this spectacle has the capacity
to show it, so that’s why.
M : According to your opinion, this
lauda succeeds in transmitting the Franciscan message faithfully
?
P.E. : Yes,
yes, it succeeds completely and you discern the message
of Holy Francis clearly inside.
M : That’s why the public feels so concerned, this
need of interior peace, because progress without goal doesn’t
serve at all finally ?
P.E. : Progress
in itself doesn't serve to anything but it becomes a
normal evolution if it’s accompanied by
interior serenity.
M : According to you, this Lauda respects enought the Franciscan
mind ?
P.E. : It respects
some of the aspects of Franciscan charisma… and
proposes also others aspect of the same charisma.
M : That’s clear that in two
hours of spectacle, we cannot explore such theme so vast.
Did Angelo have the full liberty to use resources of the
Franciscan Sources or has he been directed in a certain way
?
P.E. : Angelo
has used resources from his artist's temperament, therefore,
it’s normal
that the result is a translation that carries the print
of his musicality.
M : Is it above all an interpretation ?
P.E. : Sure !
M : Speaking about an artist as
versatile as Angelo would take many days, in particular
because his music doesn't have a label, his sonorities
can not be summarized to a unique small thing because his inspiration
spreads from Balkan to the Mediterranean passing by the
north of Europe in particular. I believe that I should
consult you again to debate this point, an external collaboration
in a way !
P.E. : Yes, yes, without problem
M : You would like to add something else concerning Angelo
?
P.E. : I wish
he can continue to propose the values that illuminate
the human's life because today, the art can touch to
a fundamental concept: interpreting what’s going
on in life of people but also transporting the universal
cultural values by giving his suggestions on a path that
allows the man to feel the other as a brother… the
message of Holy Francis.
