Elise Valere: You began to play the piano at the age of eight,
how did emerge this vocation?
Carlo Gargioni: Well, it came naturally, there was a piano
at home and in my family, music was rather present, one
played just for the pleasure.
E.V.: What is your favorite music style?
C.G.: I like the good music, that it is the classic, the
jazz, the Brazilian or Cuban music, funky or groove, modern
or old, it doesn't have an importance since it was about
good music, I am not elitist.
E.V.: You have collaborated with various artists other
that Branduardi, but concretely, how happens this collaboration,
this meeting between 2 creativeness?
C.G.: Actually, you learn to know the artist, as Angelo
for example, when you play music with him. And it emerges
naturally because we know each other, I don't change of
style reguarding the artist with whom I collaborate, contact
creates itself and it is a process that emerges naturally.
E.V.: For the creation of Altro ed Altrove, you worked
with Angelo, in his studio situated close to the Major
Lake . Didn't the imperatives tied to this kind of activity
weigh you too much?
C.G.: No, because we were together, occupied to create
an album that carried all our aspirations, when you are
concentrated on a work of musical creation, you don't see
the time passing.
E.V.: You also work for the movies, the television as
producer, how do you juggle with these very different activities?
C.G.: It is not difficult because I adore that! I like
music under all its aspects and I don't confine myself
to an activity. I like to produce or to record various
things that it is the jazz or another style, I like to
work in studio but to participate in the tour of Angelo
and to travel from city to city pleases me a lot. I know
that after I will make something else, but always in the
musical domain to which I belong. The pleasure to participate
in concerts as these is enormous, the interaction with
the public is very important and it is every time a magic
moment.
E.V.: But how do you manage the aspects more commercial
of your work?
C.G.: It is an obliged aspect of the artistic domain,
it is necessary to take into account the business, the
people, the audience, I try constantly to balance my activities
in order to make completely different things, it is a sort
of balance.
E.V.: Doesn't the myth of the dreamer artist therefore
concern you?
C.G.: I am a realistic creator but I believe as well as
many others. When I compose music, alone or with friends,
I play for the pleasure and it is after that the things
get in place, if this piece is appropriated more for the
commercial sector, for an album, for someone... when you
create music, it is first for the pleasure to play.
E.V.: You have a studio of registration in Italy and an
another one in New York , this is not difficult to manage?
C.G.: Not at all, I adore to travel and life in New York
is very different, this diversity pleases to me, I don't
ask question. I like to meet people of all sort, it is
a shape of very enriching personal evolution.
